Post-tensioning in bridges
VSL post-tensioning systems have already been used worldwide from 1956. Through long-term development and experiences, the VSL post-tensioning systems have attained technical perfection and acquired an excellent reputation owing to their quality and reliability.
VSL post-tensioning systems are protected by patents. They are certified in all countries where they are used and comply with all national and international standards.
VSL has been the holder of European Technical Approval ETA from 2006.
Incremental launching of bridge superstructures
The structure is step-by-step being made and launched from the plant located in front of the bridge abutment. This technology is used because of its many advantages, mainly savings in costs of support structures, lifting equipment, or scaffolding and formwork. It also minimises site material handling. The regular repeating of activities makes the reinforcing works and formwork more effective.
VSL offers design and complete launching technology package. The launchig is done using synchronised VSL strand units, sliding bearings, lateral guides and steel extension piece, the so-called “launching nose”.
Free cantilever method
The bridge structure concreting is realised using form travellers fitted to the so-called pier table, which are gradually advanced and the structure is concreted one segment at a time. Financial savings are attained through regular repeating of activities, which makes the reinforcing works more effective. The volume of timberwork is minimal, too.
VSL provides the design and subsequent supply of the free cantilever technology. VSL offers the system of form travellers for different lengths and cross-sections of concrete segments with a high level of flexibility.
VSL systems offer many options for erection of the precast segmental superstructures, from free cantilever method over span by span one to the so-called full span method. With more than 20 years of experiences in design and execution of segmental bridges, VSL Group is able to propose optimal solution for erection of any structure and maintains its leading position in this technology.
Owing to the aesthetic, economic and constructional advantages and the ever more frequent need to span considerable distances, the last 30 years have seen growing popularity of cable stayed bridges. VSL SSI 2000 stay cable system reflects this on-going development and growing demands on stay cable bridges and meets strict criteria of fatigue strength, corrosion protection, anchorages, stress monitoring, follow-up maintenance, and replaceability of stay cables. Until now, VSL has supplied stay cables for more than 130 bridge structures all over the world.
For economic or technical reasons, today’s civil engineering structures are often erected from large, heavy, prefabricated components. VSL is able to provide the most effective, as well as reliable solution for projects where conventional lifting equipment cannot be used because of insufficient space or weight and size of lifted elements through its offer of hydraulic lifting equipment.
