VSL has been involved in a large number of span-by-span segmental projects mainly in Asia and South America. Especially in demanding projects, VSL has often come up with an innovative, cost effective and practical solution proving to be mutually beneficial to all parties involved. VSL erection systems are developed to optimise the permanent works design and minimise additional temporary works required during the construction stage. Within the VSL network, a considerable number of suitably qualified staff is available capable of taking part in the project’s design stages, but VSL is above all able to manage, supervise and carry out all works associated with this technology using an in-house equipment. Each project is managed by a technical team, which is responsible for providing smooth solution and execution of all delivered parts of the project, with assistance of VSL technical centres.

Segments are installed en bloc along the whole length of span, then prestress is introduced into the structure via external tendons, which results in faster construction compared to the balanced cantilever erection with launching gantry, with less workers required. With overhead gantry, VSL regularly achieves 1 span per 2.5 days; with underslug gantry it is 4 days for 1 span.
